Golshifteh Farahani (born 10 July 1983, Tehran) is an Iranian actress and pianist. She is the daughter of actor/theater director Behzad Farahani and Fahime Rahiminia and sister of actress Shaghayegh Farahani. She started studying music and playing the piano at the age of five. At 12 she entered a music school in Tehran.
She was cast in films like ‘The Pear Tree’, ‘Zamaneh’, ‘Boutique’, ‘The Tear of the Cold’, ‘In the Name of the Father’, ‘M for Mother’, ‘Santouri’ and many others. She is the youngest acterss to have won Crystal Simurgh for Best Actress in Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran as the lead actress in Dariush Mehrjui's ‘The Pear Tree’ when she was only 14.
In 2008 she appeared in the American movie ‘Body of Lies’ alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. ‘There Be Dragons’, directed by Ronald Joffe and ‘Chicken with Plums’ directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, ‘Si Tu Meurs, Je Te Tue’directed by Hiner Saleem are other international films she has appeared in. In January 2012, Golshifteh was banned from returning to her homeland after posing nude in Madame le Figaro and also in the César Award's video for Most Promising Actors.
Having a musical background, Golshifteh has given some performances to support the Green Movement.
