Continuation of Street Protests and Neda Aghasoltan’s Death

On the 20th June 2009 (the Black Saturday) and after Khamenei’s warning, thousands of protesters demonstrated on Tehran’s street. Large numbers of riot police were strongly controlling most of the main streets e.g. Constitution St., Karimkhan St., Keshavarz Boulevard and Freedom St. Military forces were confronting the protesters and beating them. Based on reports, close hospitals were full of injured people, some with gunshot wounds. Hospital staff recorded at least 19 death but some unconfirmed reports announced 150 death. The protesters set the Basij basement in Navab St. on fire. Mirhossein Mousavi attended the protest and after saying that he is ready to be killed called Ahmadinejad’s government a coup and condemned it. He asked people to strike all over the country if the government arrested him. Neda Aghasoltan, the most famous figure in the Green Movement was killed on this date. A short film was broadcast quickly through the Internet and made the whole world aware of the ongoing events in Iran.
