Shahram Nazeri

 

Shahram Nazeri (born 18 February 1950, Kermanshah) is an Iranian tenor of Kurdish ancestry who sings classical Kurdish and Persian music. He is one of Iran's most respected vocalists.
Over the past thirty years he has managed to create a new style of music using Iranian epic and mystical poetry. Nazeri is very fond of Rumi’s poem and has used many poems by this poet. He has also used poems from Ferdowsi, an Iranian poet, famous for his epic poems. He is also a pioneer of using Iranian contemporary poetry in Iranian classical music format. Nazeri has released over forty recordings to date. His Gol-e-Sadbarg (The One-hundred-petalled Flower) is among the best-selling albums of Persian classical music and Sufi music.
Shahram Nazeri is very well known for being creative and his art works are the result of musical research and innovations. He is the first singer to introduce Tanbur, a musical instrument, to music lovers and to use it in Tanbur Shams Ensemble. On September 28, 2007 he was presented France's Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal for his lifetime achievements in Persian Classical music.
After the presidential election in 2009 in Iran, he performed the song ‘Ancient Iran’ in solidarity with the Green Movement.
