The First Tuesday of Protest

The opposition movement called for a protest for March 1, which became the first in a series of protests dubbed the "Tuesdays of Protest". As in the other protests, security forces deploying tear gas and other weapons were out in significant numbers and clashed with the protesters. According to opposition sources, over 200 protesters were arrested in Tehran by security services and the plain clothes agents and another 40 in Isfahan.
